How it works
From the first call to a signed order
Every family case is different, but most move through the same steps. Here is what to expect, and when.
- 01
Step 1: You call or write
Tell us briefly what’s happening and the safest way to reach you. A lawyer calls back the same working day.
- 02
Step 2: A first meeting
An hour at either office or by video. Bring any papers you’ve been served and a rough list of what you own and owe.
- 03
Step 3: A written plan
Within a week, a letter with your options, our recommendation, the likely timeline and an estimate of the cost.
- 04
Step 4: Filing or answering
We prepare the papers, file them in the right state and county, and handle service on the other side.
- 05
Step 5: Talks and mediation
Most cases settle here. We negotiate, attend mediation with you, and put any agreement in writing.
- 06
Step 6: The final order
A judge signs the agreement, or hears the case and decides. We explain the order and what to do if it isn’t followed.
